Prior to becoming a police officer in 1989, Chris Lieberman worked as a paramedic and EMS instructor in the New York City metropolitan area. He has served as a supervisor, administrator, manager, and worked as a hospital EMS Coordinator during his EMS tenure. He is also a founding member of the NY-2 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), part of the National Disaster Medical System, based in Westchester County and has been deployed to a variety of situations including the World Trade Center attack. After entering the police department he continued his work in EMS and still maintains his paramedic and instructor credentials.
Chris Lieberman joined the Westchester County Department of Public Safety (County Police) in 1989 and has enjoyed assignments in the Patrol and Special Operations Division, Emergency Services Unit, Communications Unit, and Police Academy during his career. Since 1991, he has served as an instructor at the Zone 3 Police Academy located in Westchester and in 2003 he became a Master Police Instructor. While in the Emergency Services Unit, PO Lieberman became a hazardous materials technician and attended numerous WMD training programs.
Because of the his diverse background in emergency services and EMS, Police Officer Lieberman was assigned as a full-time liaison to the Westchester County Office of Emergency Management in 2002 to assist in the development of Homeland Security and Counter-Terrorism plans and response elements. This assignment resulted in the establishment of a county-wide training initiative for hazardous materials, WMD, and Incident Management (ICS). During the summer of 2003, this assignment to OEM became part time to allow PO Lieberman more training time with the Aviation Unit. As a licensed fixed wing and helicopter pilot, he is the newest member of the Aviation Unit. He also holds a BS in Emergency Management from the State University of New York. Chris is also an adjunct instructor for the New York State Emergency Management Office specializing in Incident Command System and WMD training programs. In 2004, New York State created a statewide Incident Management Team (IMT) pursuant to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 5 and Chris is a Type 3 Planning Section Chief on that team.
