Commander John (Jack) Jennings retired from active duty after 24 years of service, 8 of which were spent in port and coastal security operations. His assignments in this area included extensive interagency interdiction operations, joint multinational counter-narcotics missions, and maritime disaster response exercises. As the Operations Officer for the Coast Guard´s Florida West Coast Group, Commander Jennings oversaw the successful execution of more than 800 maritime law enforcement operations, 4,000 search and rescue missions, and the security operation for the Port of Tampa during the Gulf War. He also served as the Director of the largest, most comprehensive full-scale maritime disaster exercise conducted in the state of Maine, involving more than 20 federal, state, and local agencies. In addition, he was a key participant in several counter-terrorist exercises conducted by the FBI, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Commander Jennings completed his Coast Guard career as an Associate Professor in the Leadership and Management Department at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where his course of instruction included strategic management, leadership, project management, and management control systems. During this period, he was consistently recognized by the Academy students for his exceptional ability to engage them in the classroom and make learning "fun".
Commander Jennings is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the College of William & Mary Williamsburg, VA, where he received a master´s degree (with high honors) in business administration.
